Improving Flow for Scrum Teams

Professional Scrum with Kanban (PSK) is a 2-day course that teaches Scrum practitioners how to apply Kanban practices to their work. Through theory, case studies, and hands-on exercises, participants will understand the importance of transparency and flow as it pertains to the Scrum framework.

Scrum is the defacto standard for how Agile teams work.  Scrum exists only in its entirety and functions well as a container for other techniques and practices.  Scrum Teams keep improving how they work, based on what they learn by inspecting and adapting on an ongoing basis.

What You Will Learn

In this class, students will learn how additional practices from Kanban can be introduced into their Scrum Teams without changing Scrum.  They will learn how to add the right practices and the benefits that their Scrum Teams can achieve from using Scrum with Kanban.

Scrum.org and our Professional Scrum Trainers have worked with Daniel Vacanti and Yuval Yeret in the creation of this course, leveraging their Kanban expertise and knowledge.  In 2007 Daniel helped to develop the Kanban Method for knowledge work. He managed the world’s first project implementation of Kanban that year, and has been conducting Kanban training, coaching, and consulting ever since.  Yuval, who some call “Mr. Kanban Israel” is a recipient of the Lean Kanban community Brickell Key Award for his work helping establish a strong Kanban community with several enterprise product developments in Israel and worldwide. He has been helping companies large and small around the world with Scrum and Kanban since 2009 and his book “Holy Land Kanban” contains many of his stories from the trenches.

Ever since I witnessed the benefits an Agile transformation can bring, I am passionate about inspiring teams and organisations to make the transition and help improve their workspace. Doing so, I have facilitated countless workshops and trainings around Scrum, Agility and Product Management.

Having hands on experience as both a Product Owner, Scrum Master and Transformation Consultant, I understand more than anyone that bringing Scrum theory into practice can prove to be very challenging. During my training courses, I draw examples from my experience varying from SME-companies in the Netherlands to corporate multinationals. Operating in fields from IT to Financial Services and Marketing.

In 2019, I felt honored to be admitted to ‘The Home of Scrum’ as an official Scrum.org licensed Professional Scrum Trainer (PST). Acknowledging my passion and efforts as a trainer.

Class room experience

Our training courses are characterized by minimizing use of Powerpoint slides. Instead, we maximize the use of visualizations on flip charts. Static Powerpoint presentations often force a class to adapt their learning to the way the slidedeck was developed. In our approach, we let go of these static slidedecks. This enables us to adapt content we are sharing to the conversation that is actually taking place. We have received great feedback on how our use of a flexible drawing style contributed to an outstanding learning experience. These visualizations will help you recollect the lessons learned through the exercises we did, the conversations we had, and your reflections throughout the training course.

Small class sizes

Our training courses have a maximum of 10 students. This has the following benefits for you:

  • A more personal experience for you as a student
  • Contributes to an environment of trust and openness
  • Easier for everyone to feel comfortable
  • More space to bring in your own challenges from your workplace
  • More space to learn from the experience of the other students
