What’s included

Learn to maximize value as a Product Owner

Flip chart drawing of the training purpose

Being a professional Product Owner encompasses more than writing requirements or managing a Product Backlog. Product Owners need to have a concrete understanding of all product management aspects that drive value from their products. This includes but is not limited to product ownership.

Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO) is a 2-day Scrum.org certified course that focuses on all of these areas. It teaches you how to maximize the value of your product. PSPO is the cutting-edge course for Product Owners, Agile product managers and anyone responsible for a product’s success in the market.

What you will learn during the PSPO course

Students during PSPO course working together while putting post-it's on the wall

Over the 2 days, you develop and solidify your knowledge of being a Product Owner. We will do this through instruction and team-based exercises. The breadth of the role’s responsibilities in delivering a successful product will become more clear from an Agile perspective. For example, we will identify metrics to measure value. And we will cover ways to align your product vision with the business strategy and company vision.

This PSPO course is much more than just a set of slides and an instructor. It is made up of discussions and hands-on exercises. And they are based on real-life cases you can relate to. Additionally there is a lot of space to bring in your own challenges. As a result, you will be able to use the theory to resolve complex challenges at your own workplace.

Who Should Attend

The Professional Scrum Product Owner course may be interesting to all involved in product development and/or everyone that manages complex work with Scrum, but has been specifically conceived for those responsible over products from a business and product management perspective and taking up the highly accountable role of Scrum Product Owner.

Professional Scrum Product Owner I (PSPO I) certification

All participants completing the PSPO course receive one password to take the Scrum.org PSPO I assessment. But do you attempt the PSPO I assessment within 14 days after the course and you score less than 85%? Then you get a 2nd attempt for free. And as a student of the PSPO course you also get a discount on the PSPO II and PSPO III assessments.

Since this assessment will be in English, participating in my English training course will help you prepare for the assessment in the best way possible.

What our former students say

“The training itself was setup as a Scrum Sprint, all topics were handled as Product Backlog Items, the training schedule was the roadmap, and so on. Not your everyday Powerpoint slide training, there was even no Powerpoint at all. Great! And on top of that, Matthijs is an experienced Product Owner so he knows what he’s talking about. Learn Scrum from the best, learn from Matthijs.”

“I participated in Professional Scrum Product Owner Training which was facilitated by Matthijs. This was the best content and facilitated training that I have ever had. Matthijs balanced the complexity of the material with the need to handle questions from the delegates in a flexible and enjoyable way. Far from the normal “dry” training that I have had in the past.”

Ever since I witnessed the benefits an Agile transformation can bring, I am passionate about inspiring teams and organisations to make the transition and help improve their workspace. Doing so, I have facilitated countless workshops and trainings around Scrum, Agility and Product Management.

Having hands on experience as both a Product Owner, Scrum Master and Transformation Consultant, I understand more than anyone that bringing Scrum theory into practice can prove to be very challenging. During my training courses, I draw examples from my experience varying from SME-companies in the Netherlands to corporate multinationals. Operating in fields from IT to Financial Services and Marketing.

In 2019, I felt honored to be admitted to ‘The Home of Scrum’ as an official Scrum.org licensed Professional Scrum Trainer (PST). Acknowledging my passion and efforts as a trainer.

Class room experience

Our training courses are characterized by minimizing use of Powerpoint slides. Instead, we maximize the use of visualizations on flip charts. Static Powerpoint presentations often force a class to adapt their learning to the way the slidedeck was developed. In our approach, we let go of these static slidedecks. This enables us to adapt content we are sharing to the conversation that is actually taking place. We have received great feedback on how our use of a flexible drawing style contributed to an outstanding learning experience. These visualizations will help you recollect the lessons learned through the exercises we did, the conversations we had, and your reflections throughout the training course.

Small class sizes

Our training courses have a maximum of 10 students. This has the following benefits for you:

  • A more personal experience for you as a student
  • Contributes to an environment of trust and openness
  • Easier for everyone to feel comfortable
  • More space to bring in your own challenges from your workplace
  • More space to learn from the experience of the other students
